DISTILL x 5 is designed to handle mostly beverage spirit operations, but there are a few things users can, and should, do in the system to properly document any denaturant additions to spirit as well as spirit removals for the purpose of denaturation.
Before conducting denaturation operations, proprietors must reach out to their TTB agent to discuss this process. Per 27 CFR Subpart O, Section 19.382, either Formulas must be approved for this process, or special permission must be granted via written approval from the appropriate TTB Officer before denaturing operations on Bonded Premises begins. If users have questions on the specific system processes detailed below, reach out to the Fx5 Support Team to discuss. All other questions about denaturing spirit in general should be directed to your TTB Agent for review.
To enter denaturing actions into Dx5:
- First, ensure your batch is active in the Bulk Processing account. If it is not, navigate to Batch Actions > Complete to enter any necessary metrics before transferring out to the Processing account. Users can also perform a Batch Actions > Stage Switch if the occupied vessel is also enabled in Bulk Processing.
- Add your denaturant to Dx5 as a Raw Material by following the steps in this short video.
- Once your material is added, apply it to the desired batch via Batch Actions > Add Materials. Materials can be added via a Recipe, Formula or Single Material addition. Review a short video on setting up Recipes/Formulas here.
- Add a Batch Note documenting the purpose for denaturation via Batch Actions > Add Note. This action ensures users have documentation within their Batch History to support the denaturing operations, which can be easily retrieved in the event of an audit.
- Finally, remove your spirit via Batch Actions > Withdraw Spirit. Enter a Withdrawal Date/Time, select the Transfer Type (Entire or Partial Contents), and leave "Withdraw Spirit" selected as the Withdrawal Type. Choose the "Used for Denaturation" Withdrawal Reason, and click Withdraw Spirit to confirm the action. Spirit withdrawn for denaturation will be reported on Processing Pt I, Line 11 - Used for Denaturation.
Note: the "Used for Denaturation" Withdrawal Reason will only appear on batches active in Bulk Processing. If you are not seeing the applicable reason available, review the first bullet point above to move your spirit to Bulk Processing.
