While setting up your recipes/formulas, you may have come across terms you were unsure of, or had general questions. Below is additional information on recipes and formulas:
- Designate as Formula allows you to set the proof change of a batch upon recipe application. For example, if a recipe always changes spirit from 190º to 80º, setting the starting/ending proof may save a step. This is not required. If starting/ending proof is specified, the starting proof must always equal exactly the proof specified. If this option is not utilized, batches may always be cut instead.
- Baseline Batch Volume refers to the size of the batch for which this recipe was created. For mashes, this typically includes both water and materials (i.e. 100gal water + materials = 350gal baseline batch). For formulas, this is typically the size of the batch for which the formula was created (i.e. 50gal NGS baseline batch + additives = 50gal liqueur).
- Scale Recipe/Formula will allow DISTILL x 5 to automatically adjust the materials needed for a batch based on your baseline batch volume. For example, if the recipe is set for a baseline batch of 100gal and is applied to a 200gal batch, Dx5 will automatically calculate the recipe for 200% of baseline. Leaving this unchecked will mean the same amounts of ingredients are applied regardless of batch size.
- Recipe Ingredients should include all fermentable materials for mash/cook recipes, and any other ingredients for which you would like Dx5 to track inventory movement. This does not need to include water unless your distillery tracks its usage.
- Batch Type Modifier will set the starting and ending batch type for a recipe/formula's application, most commonly used in Processing batches. For example, a batch starts as NGS but, through the application of a recipe, ends as liqueur XX. Starting Batch Type is NGS, Ending Batch Type is Liqueur XX.
