» For a video on Harvesting Barrels, review the following resource: Operations: Harvest Barrels (Video)
DISTILL x 5 allows you to record the harvesting (dumping) of barrels. You may record full or partial harvests.
Navigate to: Operations > Overview and click Barrel Actions > Harvest Barrels
Step 1) Select the date of harvest, the source account (if Processing barrels are active), the destination account, vessel, and destination batch type.
-
- Per TTB Regulation, Processing barrels must only be harvested into the Processing account
Step 2) Select your Barrel Batch Type(s) from the list.
-
- No barrels will appear until fewer than 1,000 barrels meet the defined search criteria.
- You can only choose Barrel Batch Types that have the same underlying TTB Reporting Category as your Destination Batch Type
- If in the US, take care to respect Storage Account mingling and blending regulations in 27 CFR 19.326
Step 3) Further restrict the list of available barrels, if desired.
- Specify an age date range from which to harvest (optional)
- Select one or more Barrel Profiles from the list
Step 4a) If fully harvesting the barrel contents:
- From the displayed results, check the selection box for one or more barrels. If harvesting all active barrels shown, use the "Select All" bulk harvest option at the top of the table. The selected barrels will group by unique batch type, and may be removed by clicking the red X to the right of any barrel.
- Enter the total volume and alcohol content of the destination vessel after the dump is complete and the tank has been gauged.
- If you are harvesting barrels into a tank that already had spirit in it, enter the gauge of any original contents plus the harvested volume.
- Example: destination vessel already has 10 gals in it, harvested volume is 90 gals; total end destination vessel volume is 100 gals. Mix the tank well, determine the proof of the mixture and enter it in this form, along with the 100 gals total ending volume. DISTILL x 5 will compute the quantity of PGs harvested from the barrels accordingly.
- If you are harvesting barrels into a tank that already had spirit in it, enter the gauge of any original contents plus the harvested volume.
- Any calculated gain or loss will display below. Confirm the amount, if any, and click Submit to complete.
Step 4b) If partially harvesting the barrel contents:
- Follow the above instructions to search for and select barrels for harvest
- Check the box for "Partial Harvest"
- For each selected barrel, specify the volume and alcohol content of the harvested amount. The calculated proof gallons harvested will appear on the right side of the barrel display.
- Unlike Full Harvests, Partial Harvest volumes must be specified in terms of the quantity harvested from each barrel (rather than the total quantity collected in the destination vessel).
- Confirm the calculated total destination volume and alcohol content, and click Submit to complete.
- Notes on Partial Harvests:
- There are no proof restrictions on partial harvests. The proof gallons harvested will be removed from the barrel quantity, leaving the requisite number of proof gallons behind.
- This allows you to harvest spirit which has increased in proof since it went into the barrel. The barrel will remain at its original fill proof after partial harvest, but the partially harvested spirit will be set to the increased proof.
- When the harvest is less than the total proof gallons in the source barrel, the remainder will stay in the source barrel.
- The harvested proof gallons may not exceed those in the source; for such an action, please use the Full Harvest option to log the appropriate gain.
- A batch may be fully harvested through the Partial Harvest form; the barrel will be appropriately cleared and returned as Empty.
- Gains and Losses (e.g. Angel's Share) cannot be recorded on partial harvests. Use Full Harvests to account for Angel's Share losses (which can only be measured upon full barrel dump).
- There are no proof restrictions on partial harvests. The proof gallons harvested will be removed from the barrel quantity, leaving the requisite number of proof gallons behind.
